I'll be there. Lookin' forward to it.

Day of .Net May 5, 2007 - I'll be there!

Last night I downloaded and installed Community Server. The installation was so easy and effortless! A simple double click on the msi file and that was that. It just works. Nice. I'm using it for my forums site. I was using ASP.Net forums, which severd me just fine, but it's time to move on. There is just so much more in the Community Server product. I would like to thank telligent for making the personal version available. Feel free to check the forums out and create an account! You can find them at http://bigkspub.com/ThePub/forums/default.aspx. I'm still in the process of setting it up and getting all the forums in so be kind. There's not a lot there. :)

This hits so close to home you can't even imagine.

I had posted earlier that Gayla's dad suffered an aortic aneurysm that had burst. I'm sorry to say that after two weeks, he didn't make it. We were so happy when he came through the surgery I guess we didn't want to think about how serious things were. Long story short, his organs started failing from the lack of blood flow. It was a horrible time. We had to decide when to remove life support. Even though I was at both my parent's side when they passed, they weren't on life support so this was my first experience with that. Anyway, I lost another dad and another friend. It sucks.

For the first 21 years of my working life, I worked as a baggage handler for North Central/Republic/Northwest Airlines in good ole DTW. I have to say, it's not a nice place to work. There are however, some really great people that work there that are still putting up with the day to day nonsense. One of the ways they deal with the all the bullshit is to make fun of it. Way back before computers there was a newsletter titled the "Bagroom Blab". The writers were very clever and funny and it really was an entertaining read. They've now started the Bagroom Blog and I am very happy to host it for them. You should check it out.

It's official. We're going to Fort Lauderdale in June. The whole family is going, including boyfriends. We're going to a "casual wedding" that will be held on the beach. Sweet! Never been to one of those. Three months and counting...

Tonight I updated my computer. Specifically, I installed Internet Explorer 7 Service Pack 1, then a couple security updates for that, then SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2. While we're waiting for them to finish, let's recap some world events that have taken place during the installs.

  • My daughter graduated college, got married, had kids, and sent them to college.
  • A baby that was born yesterday has grown up and become President.
  • I have gotten old and died.
  • We've found an alternative fuel to oil.
  • We've achieved world peace.
  • We've sent humans to Mars, Jupiter, Neptune, and the closest galaxy. (I think it's Andromdeda) And, they've all returned!

OH MY GOD! Will it ever end?!

Now if I could only get Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 to install.
