So I've started playing my guitar again. Even though I've been playing for a very long time, I'm not very good. Well, I'm not really bad either. But I don't know a lot of songs and I mostly just strum them instead of picking the individual notes. Anyway, I would really like to get better and I plan on spending a lot more time practicing and playing. I have to say though, in my opinion, there has never been a better time to play or learn the guitar. I'm speaking of course, of the Internet. I've only been searching for a few days and I've found some really great sites for tablature, music downloads, and pretty much anything about playing the guitar.
So far, these are some of the guitar/music sites I've found...
http://www.marcseal.com - Marc Seal is a guitar teacher at http://www.guitarschool.net. This guy can really play! I definitely want to get some of his music.
http://www.motorcityrock.com - I found this site while on the forums at Marc Seal's site. It's a web site dedicated to the local Detroit rock scene in the 1980's. I grew up in the 70's but I was an “adult“ in the 80's and we were always going out to see the local bands at the bar. One of my favorites was a band called Mariner. I followed that band around all of southeast Michigan.
http://www.mxtabs.net/ - This is a pretty good site for tablature. Of course there are many more but be careful, I've gotten a computer virus from a couple as soon as the page loaded.
http://www.freewebs.com/tekker/index.htm - Again, I found this site on the Marc Seal forums. There's a pretty good tutorial for learning “Classical Gas“ here along with the tablature.
http://www.mainstreetmusic.com - I downloaded some music from here the other night. I got six songs for .99 a piece. Not too bad.
Right now, I only have an acoustic guitar but of course I got the hankerin' for an electric. I've pretty much decided on getting a Squier Stratocaster made by Fender. What I'd really like is either a Standard Strat or an American Strat, but I don't want to spend that much money and anyway, everything I've read about the Squier series of guitars has been pretty good. Not to mention the price is right so unless something else comes up, that's probably what I'll get. As far as an amp, I think it'll just be a little practice amp. They're only about $100 to $150 bucks and that's all I'll need.
I'm going to be adding a links section for guitar stuff over on the right pane. If anyone has some links to some good sites, please send them along or post them in the comments section.
