January 2005 Entries

I can't believe that it's already 10 PM on Sunday night. It seems like Friday was just a couple of hours ago.

Saturday absolutely flew by because we got hit with about 8 to 10 inches of snow and I spent the day digging myself, my in-laws, and my sister in-law out. After that, because the roads were still so bad, I drove Kari to work so she wouldn't have to drive herself on the nasty roads, and by the time I got back from dropping her off, I had just enough time to jump in the shower and get ready to go bowling. Which by the way, Merribowl Lanes, if you're going to make us come and bowl in this shitty weather, the least you could do is plow your damn parking lot! My God, there must have been at least 8 inches of snow and then we just tracked it all in the bowling alley! Jeesh! And to top that off, I bowled like shit. I did however, win the 50/50 drawing! Woo hoo!

Today started off a little more relaxing, until Gayla locked her key in her car. The only key we have. While it was running. And it was behind Kari's car. And Kari had to go to work. Like right then. So, I had to let Kari take my truck, and, I really don't like to be without my truck. So we called a towing service to see if they could get the car unlocked and well, of course they did and the only good thing about all that was that Gayla knows the owners of the towing company so they didn't charge us. That? Was awesome! Saved me 45 bucks! I did however, give the guy who came out a $10 tip, but that was definitely worth it!

The day got much better from there though. Gayla and I went out to breakfast and then picked up her dad's birthday present. Today is his birthday so we ended up over Gayla's parent's house to watch football on the “big screen“ and celebrate her dad's birthday. Gayla's mom bought her dad a 42 inch plasma TV a couple of weeks ago and let me tell you, it's really awesome! So, we all went in together and bought him a home theater/surround sound system because it just wouldn't be right to have a television like that and not have a surround sound system to go with it. So, happy birthday Dad! I'm sure we'll all get as much enjoyment out of it as you will. ;)

So that's it, my weekend in a nutshell. Now it's 10:42 and I'm tired and I need to go to bed so I can get up and start looking forward to next weekend. Hmmm, I think I need a vacation.

I finally scanned this picture into my computer the other night. It is my favorite picture of Gayla and me. Of course, it's about 25 years old and we look just a little different now.

I think this was taken at one of the Republic Airlines (now Northwest Airlines) company picnics, and I would guess the year to be around 1979 or 1980. That would put us just around 20 years old. I can't see any wedding rings so I don't know if we were married yet or not. We were married in June of 1979. Yes we were drinking beer, and even though we were only 19 or 20, we were legal because the drinking age was 18 way back then.

At first  I thought it was taken at our high school "senior skip day" at a park in Ann Arbor but I ruled that out because I didn't have a mustache in high school.

Ah to be 20 again!

I little late, but, here it is anyway.

why didn't somebody tell me a spelled Tucson wrong in my previous post? Don't you know that I'm so anal/OC that I may not sleep tonight?

Because we have such shitty weather here in Hell, uh, Michigan, I like to torture myself by checking on the weather in places like Florida, Arizona, and Colorado. I have to laugh everytime I look at the weather in Phoenix because it's always the same! The only thing that really seems to vary is the temperature. So, I am hereby declaring that the easiest and most boring job in the world is a weather person in Phoenix. Yep, you heard it here first. I have to think that the hardest part of this job is coming up with ways to say that it's going to be sunny and warm.

I can just image the 6:00 news in Phoenix...

Sheila the anchor person: “And now let's check in on the weather with our weather man Bill Blowsalot.”
Bill the weatherman: “Thank you Sheila, it's sunny again today. Now back to you.”

Or, if Bill Blowsalot wants to have a little more camera time...

Bill the weatherman: “Thank you Sheila, it's sunny again today here in Phoenix except for Mesa where it's mostly sunny and in Tempe where it's really sunny. And for all you travelers, if you're heading down to Tuscan Tucson, it's really really really sunny. Now back to you Sheila.“

So there you have it. The easiest, most boring job in the world. Can you think of any others?

Today is Gayla's birthday! She's my wife in case you didn't know, and she's 46 today! She probably doesn't want me to tell people her age but that's just, too, bad, cuz now? she's older than me! Ha! Have a great day baby! Sorry it had to snow on your birthday. I know how much you love snow.

On a more serious note, Gayla's dad is having surgery today to repair a torn muscle in his shoulder. They're doing the procedure arthroscopically (sp?) so hopefully it won't be too hard on him. Hang in there dad, we'll be golfing before you know it!

I miss you.
So Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston are splitting up, huh? I told Gayla we needed to get divorced because I wanted to give her a shot. She just started laughing. As a matter of fact, she's still laughing. Hmph.
She says...and I think...

Go Blue!

When I went to bed on Thursday night I would say there was oh, about 4 or 5 inches of snow on the ground. When I woke up on Friday morning I couldn't believe my eyes! All of the snow had melted! All I could see was the grass. We had a little rain over night and the outside temp was rising. We eventually went up to 59 degrees! 59 degrees! In Michigan! On December 31st! Unbelievable. It was really a nice day, and the sun even shown during the afternoon. It felt like summer! Really. I had 2 windows and the doorwall open and I have to say, the fresh air was awesome!

Since it was so nice out, I used the opportunity to take down my outside Christmas lights and get all the other Christmas stuff put away. Christmas 2004 is officially over at our house.

Today isn't too bad, but it's not as warm. Tomorrow is going to be in the 50's again but it's supposed to rain. I wish we had more days like that during the winter, I think it would make the winters around here a little shorter and make the really bad days a little easier to take.
